Palmier de Chine Wallpaper by Mr & Mrs Vintage
In 1941, Lucile and Remy Chatain, owners of wallcovering manufacturer CW Stockwell, took a trip to the Bahamas, where they were wowed by the scale of the banana leaves. Fresh back from their vacation, they commissioned artist Albert Stockdale to render a take on the banana leaf. Martinique was released in 1942, and, after Loper's renovation of the the Beverly Hills Hotel it became a national phenomenon, appearing on the pages of Architectural Digest and House Beautiful for decades. The trend of tropical leaves is still around today. This Palmier de Chine wallpaper is a great backdrop for dining- and bedrooms.
